Riley Owen Secures GOP Nomination

On April 25, 2025, Riley Owen faced off against challengers in the Republican Nominating Convention held at Utah Valley University. Following time spent addressing delegates from across the state, Riley won the nomination by 71.2%, setting up a November race against an eventual Democratic challenger.

After arriving to a crowded convention, Riley and his team set to work introducing the delegates from across Congressional District 1 to the candidate best fit to keep the district red come November. Throughout the whole convention there was never a moment where the booth was not surrounded by at least 10 delegates with questions and comments to discuss with Riley.

"After walking onstage to Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” Owen made a case for restoring traditional conservatism to Washington, D.C.

'I believe in America and the American dream that has fueled our prosperity for centuries, and I am not willing to let progressive ideologies dissolve that dream into a mere fantasy,' he said.

Owen has been endorsed by Utah Attorney General Derek Brown and President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser, Robert O’Brien."

Joshua Northrup, a state delegate "said he started off skeptical of the 27-year-old, but after meeting him, Owen “totally changed my mind.”

'I met Riley, and I was like, this kid is awesome,' Northrup told the Deseret News.

Northrup appreciated Owen’s willingness to 'pay attention to people he was meeting in those town halls.'" (Deseret News)

Now, the real work begins of ensuring Republicans have the best chance possible of maintaining the seat when the November Midterms come around.

"Owen won the Republican nomination outright with 71.2% of the delegate vote at the GOP convention. The twenty-something is a Naval Reserve officer and former Trump White House staffer.

'I think Utahns and Americans want leaders that they can trust, that they can believe in that inspire them,' Owen said at convention.

As the Democratic Party now heads into a four-way primary for the 1st district, even [Brian] King thinks 'a good Republican can win.' (KUER)
