Riley Owen for Utah ("the Campaign," "we," "us," or "our") operates www.utahriley.com (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Site, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly. When you make a donation, sign up to volunteer, subscribe to updates, or contact us, we may collect your name, mailing address, email address, phone number, employer and occupation (as required for donations, see Section 4), and payment information (processed by our third-party payment processor; we do not store full credit card numbers on our own servers).

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we automatically collect certain technical information when you visit the Site, including your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and referring URLs. We use cookies and similar technologies for this purpose; see Section 6.

Information from third parties. We may receive information about you from data vendors, voter file providers, or public records, which we may combine with the information described above to help us communicate more effectively with voters and supporters.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Process donations and volunteer sign-ups

  • Communicate with you about the campaign, including fundraising appeals, event invitations, and volunteer opportunities

  • Comply with federal campaign finance disclosure requirements (see Section 4)

  • Analyze and improve the Site

  • Respond to your questions or requests

3. Text Messaging (SMS) Program

If you provide your mobile phone number and opt in, you may receive text messages from the Campaign, including fundraising requests, event reminders, and get-out-the-vote messages.

  • Consent. We will only send you text messages if you affirmatively opt in, such as by submitting a web form or texting a keyword to us. Consent to receive texts is never a condition of donating or volunteering.

  • Frequency and cost. Message frequency may vary. Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile carrier and plan.

  • Opt-out. You may opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. Reply HELP for assistance. You may also contact us using the information in Section 13.

  • Carriers. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

No mobile information will be shared by us with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties unless required by law. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

4. Federal Campaign Finance Disclosure Requirements

Federal law requires political committees to collect and publicly report the name, mailing address, occupation, and employer of any individual whose contributions total more than $200 in an election cycle. This information is submitted to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and becomes part of the public record. This is a legal requirement, not a marketing practice, and it applies regardless of the privacy preferences described elsewhere in this policy. You can learn more at fec.gov.

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to other campaigns, political committees, or third-party organizations.

We may share your information with:

  • Service providers who help us operate the Site and run our campaign, such as payment processors, email and texting platforms, and data analytics vendors, solely to perform services on our behalf

  • Government agencies, where required by campaign finance law (see Section 4) or other legal obligation

  • Successor organizations, in the event of a merger, reorganization, or transfer of campaign assets

6. Cookies and Analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies to understand how visitors use the Site and to improve our fundraising and outreach efforts. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling cookies may affect how the Site functions.

7. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children's Privacy

The Site is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

9. Your Choices

  • Email: You may unsubscribe from campaign emails at any time using the link at the bottom of any email.

  • Text messages: Reply STOP to any text to opt out.

  • General requests: You may contact us at any time to ask what information we hold about you or to request that it be deleted, subject to our legal obligations under campaign finance law.

10. Third-Party Links

The Site may link to third-party websites, including donation processors and social media platforms. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites, and we encourage you to review their policies.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Effective Date" above reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be posted on this page.
